Medical science has shown conclusively that overweight and obese individuals are more prone to illness and serious conditions that will reduce their life expectancy as well as their lifestyle. Diabetes is one of the most well known of these problems that are caused by obesity and the strain on the heart is immense as it has fights hard to pump the blood around the body.

In an effort to lose additional pounds it is not uncommon for quite a few overweight people to use weight loss diet pills, but these can also be dangerous if used incorrectly. Diet tablets will have negative effects which can be very dangerous if you have any other health problems as a number of weight loss pills contain amphetamines.

It is not uncommon for amphetamines to cause an increase in blood pressure and an erratic heart beat plus other issues which can be extremely serious if not fatal. Weight loss tablets also cause someone to go to the toilet more as they contain chemical substances that act as laxatives and diuretics so the loss of body fluid causes problems of dehydration and thirst amongst others including reduced electrolyte levels.

Electrolyte imbalance occurs when the normal balance of sodium, potassium, calcium, glucose and chloride is upset and you run the risk of having heart problems, muscle weakness and other conditions that can be very dangerous. The addictive effects of diet tablets is also well documented and a number of individuals who use them regularly end up requiring more and more until in the end they cannot cope without them.

Under controlled conditions, weight loss tablets can be very effective, although they should not be considered as the only way to treat a weight problem especially when more emphasis should be placed on healthy eating. The key here is to reduce the amount eaten at any one sitting (not merely about how healthy it is) and to have more, smaller meals which have the effect of increasing the speed of the metabolism and as a consequence, calories are burned off quicker.

Avoiding drinks full of sugar and sticking to water will also help with your weight loss program. Not every dietary plan will work for everyone so it may take time to find one that suits you, however it is possible to lose weight and enjoy good food as keeping weight off can be as hard as losing it in the first place.

Once you lose the weight, you must work to keep it off and falling back into bad eating habits will put the pounds back on again so diet tablets are not necessarily the answer to losing weight as the risks from weight loss pills can be too great. Choosing the right weight loss plan may require some study however surely if it works and keeps working then it will be worth the effort and will mean that the weight loss tablets will not be needed. Often rapid weight loss leads to rapid weight gain so be happy to lose that excess weight slowly and you will probably find your system will adapt more readily and the weight will stay off.
