babycesar1221 asked:

I am currently on the Depo Shot and I recently started to exercise back in March of 09 I weighed in at 183lbs and I weight myself back in late April and I was 165lbs which means I lost 20lbs but most recently I am gaining weight I am unsure if it has to do with my Depo shot or if I am gaining muscle mass. I exercise 6 days out of the week my first 5 days are 5 mile on a treadmil and my 6th day is riding my bike to work which is almost 4 miles to and from I just want to know what side effects …

They are films that you place in you. They are a film that is spermicidal. It takes 15 minutes to work.

I used VCF’s too after the Depo. I have liked that form of birth control the best. I just wish it was more effective

  • stenobabe1976 says:

Increase weight training maybe like 2 or 3 days out of the week. When you add weights you burn muscle even when you sleep.

I was on the Depo for 6 years and gained weight also (20 pounds). I also could not loose weight and excersed 6 days of cardio. I got off of that and got down to 110.

I have almost been on the copper IUD for almost a year. I have gained the weight back.

Just to let you know even though they say no hormones for the copper IUD, copper increases your estrogen. So no, it doesn’t add any synthetic hormones. Estrogen at increased amounts as well as copper increase you can gain weight.

but to answer your question yes I am off the shot and I am switching to the IUD I just had to wait until I got my period back and the funny thing is that I got it right away like the very next month it didn’t take forever like it claims unless it just because its different for me but I think you should change to something with no hormones or with lower dosages well good luck to you and please don’t give up that is the worse we can do keep it going it will come off

Yeah I was on the shot for a year and 1 month and I started in march losing weight and I got stuck at 165lbs so I decided to come off the shot which was in june and I finally started to lose weight again because I had given up hope in july and said I can’t lose it but I did start up again in Aug and so far I reached my lowest weight so far 162lbs I am trying harder everyday you also have to change your calorie intake along with exercise

Some years ago I was on Depo, I thought it was the greatest thing since the invention of the television! About a month after my first shot, my hair started falling out. I mean I could not even run my fingers threw it without hair being all over the floor! A few months after that I noticed the weight gain, about 15lbs. I was done!!!! Now I just use VCF(vaginal contracetive film), I am married so I can do that. We are happy with ir so far!

I got one depo shot and it had no side effects until I decided to get off. It took 15 months for the depo to fully get out of my system, and then my periods began to regulate. It was absolutely horrible and especicially of you want to start a family, and you just have to wait until the depo takes its course.

I have a doctors visit this friday and I am hoping he recommends the IUD for me I am sorry to hear your story and I can understand because its hard for me to lose weight I barley lost 1 more pound then last week but gosh its hard because I go up and down but more up then down well thanks for your comment have a good day!!

I am glad that you are deciding to get off of the shot. I am now in full blown withdraw, I have been off for 5 months. The steroid in the shot makes it really hard to lose weight, until its out of your system completly. I am glad that youa re doing your research, I wish I had of before I used it, because the side affects are not disclosed by doctors. I would have went a differnt route.

  • desertflower20 says:

I think its very tough deciding which birth control to take. I have been off of the shot for about 5 months now. I have had so many side affects. I gained 20 lbs, and recently believe that I am going through withdraw. I am so glad that you decide to get off the shot. I hope that you find birth control that doesnt have these side affects. I am glad that you are doing your research now. I wish that I was that smart, I would have gone a different route.

  • babycesar1221 says:

oh really cool but did you have any weird side effects like they say when your on the IUD you get heavier and longer periods is this true?

  • allybeeb says:

I have been on the IUD for 2 years and a half… and i was able to lose 40 pounds in less than a year…. of course i would have my ups and downs, but thats normal i guess…

  • babycesar1221 says:

thanks this is good to know

  • Jewelsdeb says:

I was on it for almost ten years and no wieght gain and my sister doesnt gain any either, but my friends hate it and say it did make them gain weight. They said once you go off so does the weight with work. My period came back in a couple of months.

  • babycesar1221 says:

stop now its not worth it

  • babycesar1221 says:
