Start of I am overweight.
I started Adipex prescribed by my doctor the end of April . I have lost 31 lbs so far. I work out at YMCA and recreationally swim (play with my kids) 3 to 4 times a week.

My doctor suggested this meal replacement I haven’t even heard of myself but he has and he has been using it with other patients with great results so I trust him. Average weight loss 2-5 pounds a week on it. I will continue my Adipex for Appetite suppressant and I started the meal replacement today. The meal replacement is sold through him and he gave me free boxes 50 dollars worth. It will end up costing me about 100-150 month.
Essentially the diet is high in protein and low in carbs and fat. This diet is calorie restricted.

My question is
Is protein what I want
to lose the weight and if it is would adding a protein shake once a day aid in further weight loss?

I am trying to avoid weight loss surgery. The way it is going I see great things.

Adding protein does not necessairly make you lose weight. I do not think adding a protein shake will help any further.

People tend to eat way too much protein than is actually needed. If you eat what the Canadian Food Guide recommends (about 2-3 servings of meat & alternatives, 3-4 servings of low-fat dairy, 5-12 servings of fruits &veggies, and 5-10 servings of gains – expecially whoel -grains) you should be getting the reccommended protein, as well as all of the other nutrients, that you need.

    Good Luck !

You are doing very well! Be proud of yourself. Safe weight loss without leaving sagging skin =2lbs. per week. Protein gives you energy, too many carbos/fats =weight; ALL are necessary. Your present plan is a balanced diet + exercise; stay with it. SAFE weight-loss food intake =1,000cals per day. You’ll like what you see in your mirror. Good luck!

I would continue following your doctor’s plan. I would not add in additional protein shakes since then you would be raising your calorie content. Good luck.

You do not need hi-protein shakes, you only need the “right amount of protein” shakes that will also provide you with all the other essential amino acids, nutrients and vitamins. Proteins take longer to digest than carbs and fats and keep you filling full longer, and thats how they help in weight-loss.
There is one such herbal mix, that works great and provides great energy too.email weighright@yahoo.ca and ask for details.

As a nurse and someone who has been overweight most of my adult life,I’m incredibly concerned about the amount of weight you’ve lost already. If there’s one thing I can tell you, the faster you lose it, the faster it will come back, with more weight than you already had. The protein part is good for weight loss, but you’re a busy mother and you need the nourishment more than you need to lose great amounts of weight in a hurry. If you plan to use it strictly as a meal replacement, it might not be too bad, but on a regular basis, you’re going to be robbing your body. Go back to your doctor and talk to him about the long range effects of the regimen you’re on right now. I’m sure he’ll understand that this is the rest of your life. I hated to admit to this, but paying attention to what you eat and how much you put on your plate is something you just have to deal with every day.
