PostHeaderIcon Calculate the Test statistic and P-value of this problem?

A weight loss center has found that 71% of its participants lose weight. The director decides to test a new wt. loss strategy on random sample of 125 participants and finds that 95 of those participants lose weight. Is the new strategy an improvement and should the center adopt the new strategy? Test an appropriate hypothesis with alpha = .01.
I need the test statistic and p-value, and conclusion in the context of the problem!
Thank you!!! :)

One Response to “Calculate the Test statistic and P-value of this problem?”

  • edward says:

    Ho: p = 0.71
    Ha: p > 0.71

    Test statistic =
    (p(sample) – p(Ho))/sqrt(p(Ho)(1-p(Ho))/n)
    =(0.76 – 0.71)/(sqrt(0.71*0.29/125)
    = 1.23

    Now P(Z > 1.23) = 0.11
    Since 0.11 > alpha = 0.01, we don’t reject Ho
The new strategy is not significantly better
